Inspires Thousands of Youngsters to Embrace an Active Lifestyle
BOA successfully organized the ‘BOA Marathon 2024’ on December 20, 2024, in Dhaka, engaging over 5,000 participants from all walks of life, including students, youth, veterans, and fitness enthusiasts. The event was a remarkable initiative to promote physical fitness and encourage a healthier lifestyle, especially among young people. Organized with the support of the Bangladesh Army, the marathon was held under the kind directive of BOA President, General Waker-Uz-Zaman, SBP, OSP, SGP, psc. The event was inaugurated by BOA Secretary General, Mr. Syed Shahed Reza, who graced the opening ceremony as the Chief Guest. The BOA President honoured the closing ceremony as Chief Guest, distributing awards and celebrating the achievements of the participants. The BOA Marathon 2024 has significantly contributed to public engagement with the Olympic Movement in Bangladesh. By incorporating Olympic values and slogans in all branding, the event successfully promoted Olympism and the spirit of sportsmanship. The overwhelming participation and enthusiasm generated have laid the foundation for an even bigger and better marathon experience in 2025, as BOA plans to organize two marathons in the upcoming year. This initiative has not only encouraged a growing community of running enthusiasts but also reinforced BOA’s commitment to fostering a healthier and more active society through sports. The Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) actively participated in the South Asia Olympic Council (SAOC) Executive Committee Meeting from February 25 to 26, 2025, in Lahore, Pakistan, where key decisions were finalized for the 14th South Asian Games, now scheduled to take place from January 23-31, 2026, across Lahore, Faisalabad, and Islamabad. Representing BOA, Deputy Secretary General Mr. Ashiqur Rahman Miku and Executive Member Mr. Siraj Uddin Md Alamgir joined the meeting from South Asian NOCs to discuss preparations for the region’s biggest multi-sport event. The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of Bangladesh to participate across all approved disciplines, with athlete registration set to begin soon. With the last edition held in Kathmandu and Pokhara, Nepal, in 2019, the return of hockey, a historically significant sport for Pakistan, marks a major highlight for the upcoming Games. A total of 28 sports have been finalized, including football, athletics, swimming, volleyball, basketball, handball, cricket (T20), archery, boxing, fencing, judo, shooting, squash, taekwondo, weightlifting, wrestling, kabaddi, and rugby. The venue allocation for specific disciplines will be announced later. For Bangladesh’s athletes, the South Asian Games provide a major platform to showcase their talent, and the finalization of a new schedule revives aspirations for success on the regional stage.
